In the film the two most important characters are Bruno and Shmuel, the boys you can see in the picture. They are both 8 years old, they are very similar although Bruno is German and Shmuel is Polish. The image shows us two different ways of life during the II World War. About Bruno we can say that he lives in a big house with his family, near the concentration camp where Shmuel lives as a prisoner. He comes from a rich family and his father is an officer of the German Army. Bruno is a very naive boy and he loves exploring. While he was exploring the forest he found the concentration camp (but he thought it was a farm) and Shmuel. About Shmuel, we can say that he lives in a concentration camp only with his father, he works all day but sometimes he runs away and spends time with his new friend. We think that these two characters are very similar because in a way they are only children.
The two boys in the picture are the main characters of the film. The boy on the left is Shmuel, he is a Jew living in a concentration camp, but he was born in Poland. The boy on the right is Bruno, he is German and he lives very near from the concentration camp. His father is a Nazi officer who is in charge of the Auschwitz concentration camp where Shmuel is a prisoner. This situation shows that they’re very similar children, but they’re from different cultures, and one of them is discriminated by the Nazis.
